Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the Psychiatry Research Department within Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
NIH-funded post-doctoral fellowship positions are immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Avram Holmes (http://holmeslab.yale.edu/ ) located at the Rutgers Center for Advanced Human Brain Imaging Research (CAHBIR) and the RWJMS Department of Psychiatry. We are seeking applicants with a strong background in network neuroscience, genetics, psychiatry, computational biology, and/or computer science who are interested in working at the interface of human disease, neuroscience, and genetics.
Research in our laboratory is focused on discovering the fundamental organization of large-scale human brain networks. A core motivation that drives this work is the search for specific network-level signatures, or “fingerprints”, that co-vary with heritable behavioral variation in the general population and mark vulnerability for psychiatric illness onset. Our current projects encompass three complementary domains of inquiry which aim to (1) characterize the organization of functional and anatomical brain networks; (2) establish reliable links between genetic variation, system-level brain function, and behavior in the general population; and (3) explore associations between disturbances in network organization and clinical presentation in psychiatric illness.
Within these broad domains the post-doctoral fellows will have the freedom to spearhead their own studies (basic, translational, or clinical) while devoting approximately two-thirds of their efforts to supporting ongoing PI initiated NIMH-funded projects. Applicants should have a PhD or MD and demonstrated expertise in clinical, cognitive, or translational neuroscience. Candidates with experience in computer science, data science, statistics, genetics, or related fields are also strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants should be comfortable with methodological innovation, and interested in optimizing and developing analysis pipelines tailored to the study of high-dimensional imaging and/or genetic datasets. New approaches and ideas are encouraged, as are independent projects that complement our current studies.
The post-doctoral fellows will be supported to develop their own research program at the intersection of the above topics. The department has a strong track record in supporting postdocs and junior investigators to successfully obtain competitive research funding including awards from the National Institutes of Health and the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Perform neuroimaging data analyses, including both functional and structural MRI data.
  • Take a lead role in communicating the results of neuroimaging studies through scientific journal articles and conference presentations.
  • Work with the research team to ensure conformance with the quality standards of the research lab.
  • Keep detailed records of procedures and experiments.
  • Assist with grant and IRB protocol preparation.
  • Supervise graduate and undergraduate students as well as research assistants conducting research in the laboratory.
