The CDC Foundation seeks a Program Officer (PO) to manage a variety of public health projects related to infectious diseases. With discretion, professionalism, and independent judgment, the PO will be responsible for developing and monitoring work plans of project partners (scope, budget, schedule, procurement, contract management, communication) and supporting the completion of quality project deliverables on-time and on-budget in a manner consistent with donor or federal award requirements. This is a full-time, hybrid position based in Atlanta, GA.

Qualifications and Necessary Skills

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required. Master’s degree in public health, public administration, or related field from an accredited college or university preferred.
    • Minimum of 3 years of public health and related professional experience with a master’s degree. Minimum of 5 years of public health and related professional experience without a master’s degree.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience preparing, writing, and editing complex documents such as detailed reports; briefing documents for CDC, and other stakeholders/partners; and concise presentation of information using data and science to drive messaging.
    • Creative, innovative, and solutions driven, with a focus on relationship building, powerful storytelling, and delivering results.
    • Skills in project management and budget formulation, tracking and forecasting required. Project management certification through the Project Management Institute or similar accreditation organization preferred.
    • Experience with enterprise resource planning systems and software packages used to manage day-to-day business activities such as program management and budgeting preferred.
    • Demonstrated success in managing complex projects from initiation through close-out as well as the ability to problem-solve and negotiate.
    • Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills; collegial, energetic, and able to develop positive, productive relationships with colleagues and partners.
    • Sound judgment and maturity, exemplified by consistent professionalism in working with individuals at all levels both internally and externally.

Duties and Responsibilities

    • Plans, executes, monitors, and closes projects by working in collaboration across internal departments, external organizations, geographic regions, and cultures.
    • Fosters and maintains peer-to-peer relationships with subject matter experts, partners, and donors.
    • Prepares, finalizes, and submits narrative and financial project reports and updates to CDC and donors. Develops or contributes to data-driven briefing documents, project updates, stories, blogs and other communications products to disseminate project results.
    • Serves as project liaison for and between internal and external colleagues. Collaborates with the CDC Foundation colleagues – in particular, the General Counsel, Finance, Communications and Federal Grants and Compliance Teams – to ensure project requirements are met.
    • Contributes to proposal development, project planning, budgeting and procurement, recruitment and hiring of staff, auditing/evaluating project performance, and report submissions.
    • Formulates project goals, objectives, operating guidelines, and priorities to ensure consistency with the organization’s standard operating procedures.
    • Contributes to resource mobilization efforts for the assigned projects/programs.
    • Prepares, negotiates, and monitors contracts and agreements with consultants, vendors and implementing partners.
    • Represents the CDC Foundation at technical, policy, and strategic planning meetings with internal and external colleagues.
    • Travels to conduct site visits, attend conferences, and represent the designated projects and/or programs at meetings (up to 10 percent time annually).
    • Participates in and/or supports special projects and other duties as assigned.
