The Opportunity  

The Department of Integrated Business (IB) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) seeks to fill a faculty position for an instructor or lecturer. The teaching assignment will focus on the program’s required Integrated Marketing and Sales course, which concentrates on the business-to-business (B2B) sales process. The course has a heavy emphasis on oral communication (presentation) and creativity/innovation. The teaching assignment may include other courses in the undergraduate IB program and the IB track of the Master of Science in Management (MSM) program.

This is a nine-month, non-tenure earning position anticipated to start August 8, 2024 (fall 2024 semester). The normal teaching load is four classes each fall semester and four classes each spring semester. While the primary assignment is at the UCF main campus, the selected candidate may be required to teach on occasion at the Valencia College East campus located seven miles from the main campus.

In the IB program, the content and structure of each course is developed and maintained by a course lead. Instructors and lecturers are expected to work with the course lead to focus on high quality course delivery and substantive student engagement. They are also expected to provide input on development of common assignments and assessments and changes in course content and structure. The IB program has adopted a flipped classroom approach in which face-to-face class time is used to actively engage students with the application of course content and develop in them a range of soft or transferable skills. Course instructors do not lecture.

Responsibilities also include university and professional service and, for an instructor, professional development outcomes sufficient to maintain academic qualifications for teaching at the undergraduate level or, for a lecturer, publications sufficient to maintain academic qualifications for teaching at the undergraduate and master’s levels.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Earned master’s degree (for an instructor) from an accredited institution in a discipline closely related to marketing, sales, public relations, communications, or management along with substantive experience working in business-to-business sales. Or a doctoral (terminal) degree (for a lecturer) from an accredited institution in a discipline closely related to marketing, sales, public relations, communications, or management.
     

  • One year of full-time experience as a college instructor or the equivalent in part-time experience. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • A demonstrated history of high-quality teaching outcomes with regard to course delivery, student learning, grading discipline, and student perception.

  • More than one year of teaching experience.

  • Teaching experience in graduate programs.

  • Consulting experience in marketing, sales, communications, or public relations across multiple industries.

  • A record of academic or professional publication related to course content.

  • Professional certification in an area related to marketing, sales, communications, or public relations.

  • Academic credentials and/or professional experience or credentials sufficient to qualify the candidate to teach other required classes in the Integrated Business program or the IB track of the MSM program.

  • Candidates must clearly describe how their qualifications meet these preferences in their cover letter and c.v.
