Position Description
Advertised Job Summary | The faculty of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for a 9-month, full-time, tenure-track position in experimental nuclear physics at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 16, 2024. The successful candidate is expected to develop a vigorous externally funded research program that will complement our existing strengths in experimental nuclear physics and have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching. Our experimental nuclear physics group is leading experimental efforts to study the structure of hadrons and light nuclei at Jefferson Lab and PSI. We are engaged in activities supporting a 22-GeV upgrade of JLab and the future EIC. At USC, we have built baseline equipment for the CLAS12 and MUSE experiments and are involved in the EIC R&D programs. The Department of Physics and Astronomy at USC, a Carnegie Research 1 University, consists of 26 faculty members and is currently growing. Our main research areas are astronomy/astrophysics, condensed matter physics, nuclear physics, particle physics, and quantum physics.
