Summary:

The Graduate Program Coordinator is responsible for managing all activities of the Ph.D. and Master’s Graduate Programs and is the primary resource for graduate student interactions within the programs.  Also responsible for managing the Ph.D. Program's NIH NIGMS T32 predoctoral training program in pharmacological sciences. Serve as a key resource to Directors of Graduate Studies (DGS) for Therapeutic Sciences Ph.D. and Biotechnology Master’s programs in matters relating to graduate program activities including academic and student activities, faculty trainers, administrative support, committee support, and interdepartmental support.  Serve as a key resource to T32 Principal Investigators (PIs), especially in matters relating to collecting information on T32 faculty trainers, student trainees, and alumni(a) for progress reports and grant renewals.  Serve as a primary point of contact for graduate students; counsels students, faculty members, and other graduate administrative staff in areas such as: recruitment, admission, academics, degree progress, completion rates, professional development, employment, and administrative functions. In addition, refer students to the appropriate resources as they pertain to financial aid, employment, housing, transportation, insurance, etc.  Maintain the TSGP and Biotechnology websites and an electronic tracking system to assess and evaluate graduate program effectiveness, student retention, grade point average, and academic and career outcomes.  Develop and maintain key relationships with University partners.

Job Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 1-2 years of experience required

  • Prior experience with academic graduate programs and event planning preferred

  • And/or equivalent combination of experience and education

Job Competencies

  • Ability to manage confidential personal, business/financial data and information.

  • Ability to effectively manage resources and establish appropriate priorities.

  • Demonstrated ability to use discretion and independent sound judgment.  

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, G-mail, web-based tools, Banner, FileMaker, WorkDay, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and a willingness to use new and virtual technology to provide effective and efficient products to constituency.

  • Excellent communication skills-both oral and written-to elicit and communicate information, to analyze data, and to prepare /present clear, informative, and concise materials.  

  • Aptitude for interpreting and implementing complex graduate program and University policies.

  • Ability to work under pressure in a deadline-oriented environment

  • The ability to work independently and to manage up well.

  • Demonstrated experience in a diverse environment working closely with students and faculty.

  • Possesses a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive campus community.
