The Graduate Program Academic Advisor-Flex MBA is responsible for overall program management, student affairs, and delivery of outstanding services to graduate business students at the UC San Diego Rady School of Management. The position provides academic counseling, advising and guidance in a team environment.

This position focuses on the Flex Weekend and Evening MBA programs. Serves as the day-to-day program/student affairs manager and a primary point of contact for all Flex Evening and Flex Weekend MBA students from orientation through graduation. Provides holistic oversight of the graduate student experience, including academic, co-curricular, and student life aspects. Monitors academic progression toward graduation, advises graduate students on problem resolution regarding academic difficulty or delayed completion of degree, addresses course scheduling and registration issues, and establishes a rapport with students and faculty. This position advises students and faculty on academic policy, grading policies & deadlines, and completes documentation related to graduation and course registration.

This position provides input on course-scheduling for their population of students. This position interfaces with a variety of UCSD departments: the Registrar's Office, the Division of Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs (GEPA), Student Financial Solutions (SFS), International Students & Programs Office (ISPO), etc. This position collaborates with Rady Academic Directors/faculty. This position manages the student award process for academic and non-curricular student awards.

This position participates in the planning and implementation of special events such as graduation, pre-term prep activities, orientation, and ongoing co-curricular networking special events geared to the Flex Evening and Flex Weekend MBA students.

The ideal candidate for this role has outstanding rapport-building/communication skills to build relationships with MBA students who are attending school while (frequently) working full/part time.

~This position works two days per week on campus and three days remote (8:00 -4:30).

~The position also works at least 2 weekend days per quarter (every three months) and several 10:00am-6:30pm weekday shifts per quarter to provide in-person support to our FlexEvening and FlexWeekend graduate students.

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in student affairs, student service, counseling, business, public administration, or related field or comparable education or experience

  • Experience interpreting and explaining academic polices related to course progression, grading policies, registration deadlines, drop/add rules, etc. Experience proactively monitoring students' degree progression.

  • Academic Advising experience. Experience responding to student questions regarding academic issues, course registration, degree progression, etc. Experience responding to questions with a customer-focused approach via email, phone, and in person. Experience speaking effectively and with poise before large and/or small groups of people, in public and in one-on-one interactions.

  • Experience working with students to resolve academic and personal challenges preventing academic success. Experience interacting with students regarding leaves of absence, withdrawal from course/program and other difficult life decisions.

  • Experience using (or ability to learn) a wide variety of complex online systems: student data systems, enrollment systems, degree/college course credit systems, shared drives and the ability to research information while using multiple systems. Data entry experience. Solid Word/Excel skills. Experience working with an online learning system (online syllabus, course postings, communications).

  • Decision-making skills/good judgement. Experience implementing student-oriented or advising-oriented programs and activities involving diverse groups of people including faculty, staff, and students.

  • Experience planning and implementing special events such as orientation, graduation, open house tours, speakers series etc. Experience with hand-on logistical details.

  • Experience developing action plans for student achievement in tandem with faculty and monitoring those plans.

  • Collaboration skills. Rapport-building skills. Prioritization skills.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in higher education school counseling or student services.
    In-depth knowledge of business education curriculum and graduation requirements. experience with graduate students, ideally graduate business students.

  • Experience interacting with an international audience, ideally students.

  • This position typically works 8:00am-4:30pm Monday through Friday. This position works two days per week on campus and three days remote.

  • The position also works on campus a minimum of two weekend days per quarter (every three months) and several 10:00am-6:30pm weekday shifts per quarter to provide in-person support to our FlexEvening and FlexWeekend graduate students.
    Time off during the week or overtime is provided to compensate for the weekend/evening workdays.

  • Rare additional evenings and weekends may be required due to special events such as orientation, commencement, and club meetings. Weekend shifts and later weekday shifts are scheduled well in advance (i.e. rarely is it last minute).

  • This position is eligible for overtime which may be occasional due to special events.


Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $37,900 - $85,300 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $18.15 - $40.85

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
