Summary

The Xiang Zhang Lab investigates biological mechanisms and therapeutic strategies of breast cancer metastasis. The lab is currently investigating early-stage bone colonization of disseminated breast cancer cells and breast cancer-induced immunosuppression.

 

The primary focus of the Zhang Lab is to study: how the systemic and local immune environment varies among tumors of diverse genetic/epigenetic background; 2) how to identify the critical immune cell types/functions in a specific tumor context; and 3) how different tumors evolve dependencies on specific immune cells. Our ultimate goal is to identify therapies that could restore the normal functions of the immune system.


Job Duties
  • Prepares and conducts laboratory research experiments.
  • Collects, compiles and analyzes data.
  • Selects, evaluates and applies techniques used in routine research.
  • Demonstrates use and care of equipment to research personnel in the laboratory.
  • Engages in teaching graduate or medical students/
  • Interprets rules, regulations, and policies for faculty and laboratory personnel and insures compliance.
  • Conducts scientific research on bone metastasis of breast cancer and prostate cancer.
  • Elucidates biological mechanisms underlying breast cancer metastasis, and designs therapeutic strategies accordingly. 
  • Collaborates with scientists out of the lab for multidisciplinary study.
  • Develops new model and technique to support the cancer-related research in the lab.
  • Presents research findings at weekly lab meetings

Minimum Qualifications
  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in a biological science
  • Prior experiences in tissue culture and basic molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, DNA purification, Western blot, DNA/RNA/Protein manipulation from cell line/tissue/Blood… etc) would be helpful.
  • Must be a teamplayer and work well within a group.
  • The individual should be self-motivated and enjoy being highly organized, detail-oriented, communicative, and collaborative.
  • The individual should enjoy contributing to ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the laboratory.
  • The lab provides an interactive and stimulating scientific environment and opportunities for growth.
