Hiring Range: Assistant Professor salary range of $57,167 - $98,574 with opportunity for additional pay for overload and summer courses.

Job Description:


New River Community College (NRCC) is a comprehensive community college located in the New River Valley of Virginia. At NRCC you can prepare for the future with any of our various occupational programs or college transfer courses. NRCC faculty members are well known not just for their academic background, but also for their capacity to work closely and effectively with students. All faculty who teach college transfer courses have doctorates or master's degrees, while those in occupational programs have a diverse background which combines academics with practical on-the-job experience. In recent years individual professors and college programs have received state and national awards for their quality.
  • Teach a minimum of 15 semester hours for fall and spring semesters in accounting courses to students as assigned.
 
  • Provide oversight of the accounting program, including assisting in securing and mentoring qualified adjunct faculty.
 
  • Write and revise course plans.
 
  • Develop courses, including online courses.
 
  • Assist in the selection and creation of instructional materials.
 
  • Recommend curriculum changes to upgrade and integrate students' learning.
 
  • Develop and implement student retention and success initiatives.
 
  • Assume advising responsibilities.
 
  • Assist in the development and placement of students in Cooperative Education/Internship courses.
 
  • Assist the division with administrative and/or committee work.
 
  • Participate in department, division and college discussions, meetings and initiatives.
 
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in accounting or a related field with at least 18 graduate hours in accounting.

 

 
  • Demonstrated expertise in multiple areas of accounting.

  • Demonstrated skills and/or knowledge of assessment of student learning.

 

 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, manage and/or teach high school dual enrollment courses.

Finalists will be required to present a sample teaching lesson.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Public Accounting (CPA) designation or equivalent.

 

 
  • Previous record of teaching excellence to include effective communication in teaching/learning situations.

 

 
  • Evidence of continuous professional development in the accounting field.
