Position Summary

A Research Associate (postdoctoral) position is available in the Dairy Nutrition group, Department of Animal Science at Michigan State University. The major focus of this position is to understand how diet and genetics alter methane emission from cows and applying this knowledge to improve nutrient use, feed efficiency, and environmental sustainability of the dairy industry. 

Research (100%)

Lead animal studies, laboratory analysis, data analysis, grant submissions, and manuscript preparation within our nutrition and metabolism program.  Research is multidisciplinary in its approach with emphasis on dietary impacts on methane emissions of dairy cattle.  Methodologies include those related to methane measurement in cattle, in vivo studies with lactating dairy cows, and statistical analysis using SAS.  Individual will participate in multiple projects, helping to coordinate the research activities of students and staff within the program as well as undertaking sample collection and analysis.  Individual will also play a central role in mentoring undergraduate research assistants and graduate students in the laboratory. 

The major focus of this position is to understand how diet and genetics alter methane emission from cows and applying this knowledge to improve nutrient use, feed efficiency, and environmental sustainability of the dairy industry. 

This position is initially for one year, renewable annually based on performance, with a possibility of an extension based on the availability of funding.

Required Degree

Doctorate


Minimum Requirements

PhD in scientific area relevant to the nutrition of dairy cows with experience in handling cattle, sampling blood, conducting and managing experiments with dairy cows, compiling and analyzing data, preparing manuscripts, and making research presentations.
