- Duties and Responsibilities Work with the Executive Director and Estuary Program Scientist to standardize existing data sets from across the Florida Panhandle region and beyond if applicable and analyze together with newly collected data from field-based research. Post-doctoral researcher will perform advanced analyses as applicable on large, regional datasets and write peer reviewed publications and reports based on project results. Work with Estuary Program staff in a collaborative environment with minimal oversight to meet deadlines and lead a research project while independently developing new processes and procedures to ensure project completion and milestones are met. Develop collaborative code to analyze data and manage data according to university and GRIIDC requirements including version control techniques. Work with Estuary Program staff and participate in fieldwork seasonally as necessary in less-than-ideal conditions. Prepare and give presentations based on project results as necessary. Additional duties include: Problem-solving research challenges and data analysis individually. Contribute discrete and non-discrete components of a larger project under the direction of the Estuary Scientist and Executive Director in collaboration with project partners. Analyze, interpret, and document research findings for review both historic and newly acquired. Evaluate existing research or modeling techniques and recommend improvements to ensure quality and productivity. Assist in the preparation of proposals and reports.
- Qualifications
- Qualifications include a Ph.D. in ecology, marine biology, quantitative ecology, or other related sciences awarded no later than August 2023 and within the past five years with experience in research and managing and analyzing large datasets. The ability to work in a group setting is essential, as you will work collaboratively with PIs, research associates/technicians, and partners on this interdisciplinary effort. Postdoctoral researchers with expertise in: Quantitative ecology. Estuarine research. Project evaluation methodology. Advanced statistical analysis techniques. Standardizing historic data and data from different sources, Advanced programming skills based on practical experience with high-level language and tools such as R. Communicate research results to scientists and the public, including publication in peer-reviewed literature and presentations at conferences and elsewhere. Assist in mentoring research assistants and student interns Offer insights to help improve workflows for data collection and analysis. Work in a highly collaborative, cross-disciplinary environment to develop research questions; analyze and synthesize data; and present results. Standardizing historic data and data from different sources, Advanced programming skills based on practical experience with high-level language and tools such as R. Communicate research results to scientists and the public, including publication in peer-reviewed literature and presentations at conferences and elsewhere. Assist in mentoring research assistants and student interns. Offer insights to help improve workflows for data collection and analysis. Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to candidates who have the following skills and will accept guidance provided by the Estuary Scientist and Executive Director. Skills and experience in data science, time series, and geospatial analysis particularly in applied studies. Experience with collaborative code development and familiarity with version control. Experience or interest in data science and large-scale data mining and analysis. Familiarity with estuarine field sampling techniques. Familiarity with field work and boat operation. Experience and/or interest in research collaboration and co-production of knowledge with local communities. Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in the sciences. Highly motivated and self-directed in advancing complex projects and a record of successful research. Ability to work in a collaborative environment with minimal oversight. Ability to acknowledge and meet deadlines and to set individual soft deadlines in an effort to meet a larger hard deadline. Ability to lead a research project and independently develop new processes and procedures to ensure project completion and milestones are met. Willingness to participate in fieldwork seasonally and in less-than-ideal conditions (e.g., summer heat, winter temps).
