Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Program Director Student Experiences & Alumni Affairs for the Office of Student Affairs within Rutgers School of Public Health
Under direction of the Assistant Dean of Student Experiences & Alumni Affairs (SEAA), the Program Director is responsible for providing exemplary support services and career advisement to enhance the academic and co-curricular experience of students at the Rutgers School of Public Health. Works with a high degree of autonomy and maintains communication with university/RBHS student services, the SEAA unit, and necessary faculty and staff within the school to ensure all efforts are student-centered. This role is primarily located in Newark with occasional workdays and site visits at the School’s other locations.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Support Services
  • Primary campus liaison for Newark location and university student service units in Newark – Financial Aid, Public Safety, Student Health Services, Student Wellness Program, Student Health Insurance Program, Academic support, etc.; develops relationships with services at other SPH locations as needed
  • Along with Assistant Dean, promotes health and wellness amongst students by providing supportive listening and crisis counseling with students if needed, referring them to appropriate student services and resources.
  • Responsible for managing calendar of workshops and programming for students on identified areas of support, such as: mental health, emotional wellbeing, study strategies, professional development, time management, etc.
  • Maintains professional counseling records of individual interactions and correspondence with students throughout the semester.
  • Represents the campus and unit on administrative matters related to the campus and/or the School of Public Health as needed.
  • Coordinates services in Newark location for students who need special academic accommodations as indicated by Office of Disability Services

Career Services
  • Creates and presents workshops, contracting with and building employer relationships, and counseling students on career and educational goals.
  • Performs a wide range of career counseling, including individual and group career counseling to graduate students.
  • Serves as liaison with entity providing career services online management system. Responsible for onboarding staff and students to systems that SPH uses.
  • Designs and implements small and large group workshops in the following critical areas: resume writing, job search, interviewing, and other professional areas relevant to Public Health.
  • Promotes and coordinates efforts for students to attend local and national Career Fairs,
  • Assists in connecting students in field/practice experience to professional opportunities

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Counseling, Social Work, Student Affairs, or a related field.
  • At least five (5) years’ experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of career counseling theories and best practices for individuals and groups working the field of Public Health.
  • Must be able to work with the highest levels of university administration, as well as executives elsewhere in the public health sector.
  • Must be attentive to the needs of the organization and contributions of co-workers, faculty and students.
  • Must appreciate unique characteristics of different cultures and minority groups and respect individual differences.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Public Health, Counseling, Social Work, or Student Affairs 
  • Previous experience in career counseling with public health and/or health-related program
