Position Summary

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of New Mexico seeks a postdoctoral fellow with research experience in some area of C*-algebras, such as K-theory or semiprojectivity, that is connected to current research in topological physics.  This position will be at the University of New Mexico and will include some teaching (averaging one course per semester) of mathematics courses.
This position will require you to conduct a portion of your research on mathematics needed for an ongoing project involving electron structure of materials.  This project involves pure and applied mathematicians and theoretical physicists, both at UNM and the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT), a DOE user facility near the UNM.  A key part of the mentoring will be to train you to interact with these other disciplines.  However, your main research task will be proving theorems to be published in mathematics or mathematical physics journals.  You will interact with Dr. Alex Cerjan and other physicists at CINT, but your office space will be at UNM and your supervisor will be Prof. Terry Loring.

This is a two-and-a-half year position, with initial 12-month salary of $70,000 per year.  The preferred starting date is in January 2024.  Review of applications will commence on November 1, 2023, but applications will be considered until the positions are filled. The University of New Mexico is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer and educator.  Qualified women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply.  Candidates of all nationalities are encouraged to apply.
