The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to serve as a member of the Neuroscience & Experimental Therapeutics team in Winzer-Serhan Lab. The Postdoctoral Research Associate, under general supervision, is responsible for conducting lab experiments, analyzing, and communicating data in the form of primary research articles, and aiding in grant writing. Assists in training undergraduate students and performing routine lab duties as required.  They will join a research lab with interest a focus on addiction research which involves applying intravenous drug self-administration in rodents using operant chambers, stereotactic surgeries for injection of AAV and implantation of fiber-optic probes, mouse handling and rodent behavior testing, wireless fiber-optic recordings of fluorescence signals in behaving animals, data analysis using MatLab, Excel, Stat programs, PowerPoint or similar programs for a slide presentation and figures for grants and publications, and excellent writing and communication skills.

Required Education and Experience: 

  • Appropriate doctoral degree.  

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • PhD in Neuroscience.

  • Addiction research experience.

  • Rodent Handling and behavior experience.

  • Image analysis experience.

  • Data analysis of large data sets in Metlab.

  • Histology/immunohistochemistry.


Responsibilities:

  • Experimental research: Conducts Intravenous drug self-administration using operant chambers. Responsible for Implantation of intravenous port for drug injection. Trains rodents in operant chambers. Performs Wireless Fiber photometry. Performs Stereotactic injections of AAV. Responsible for the Implantation of wireless probe. Performs data analysis of fiberoptic recordings of fluorescence signals in freely behaving mice in combination with drug self-administration including quantifying data obtained from fiberoptic recordings, statistical analysis of data sets from imaging and behavioral experiments,  and critical interpretation of results and design of follow-up experiments. Sections mouse brains for immunostaining and in vitro imaging using confocal microscopy.

  • Lab duties and training of other lab personnel: Performs routine lab duties. Responsible for the training of lab personnel including undergraduate and graduate students. Develops standard procedures for specialized methods.

  • Writing of manuscripts and assisting with grant proposals: Prepares figures for presentation and manuscripts. Writes initial drafts of research articles and aids in writing research grant proposals for submission to funding agencies like NIH, NSF, and DOD. Performs other duties as assigned.
