Summary of Job Duties:
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biochemistry to start in August 2024. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment.
The candidate will be expected to teach biochemistry effectively at the graduate and undergraduate levels and direct the research of graduate students, postdoctoral students, and undergraduate honors students.
The University of Arkansas has made significant research investments in the research areas of biochemistry, metabolism, biophysics, and biomedicine. The National Institutes of Health established the NIH Arkansas Integrative Metabolic Research Center (AIMRC) in 2021. AIMRC is focused on understanding the role of cell and tissue metabolism in disease and health. See: https://aimrc.uark.edu/about/. About the Department
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry has approximately 26 tenured or tenure track faculty, 6 non-tenure track instructional faculty, 4 administrative staff, 3 scientific staff, 4-8 instructors, and several research-active emeritus faculty. The Department is the home of the NIH Center for Protein Structure and Function with Advanced Core Facilities in NMR spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography, Mass Spectrometry, Protein Production, and Chemical Synthesis.

With submitted materials, the candidate must demonstrate:

• Ph.D., or terminal degree, in biochemistry or a related area from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the start of appointment

• Relevant postdoctoral experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Evidence of strong potential to develop a nationally recognized and funded research program in biochemistry or a related area

• Evidence of strong potential to develop a nationally recognized and funded research program in the biochemistry areas of emphasis in the Arkansas NIH Integrative Metabolic Research Center (AIMRC).  AIMRC is focused on understanding the role of cell and tissue metabolism in disease and health.  See:  https://aimrc.uark.edu/about/  

• Significant accomplishments in Biochemistry research resulting in publications in highly respected peer-reviewed journals

• Strong Proposal for developing an externally funded research program at the University of Arkansas
