Summary of Job Duties:
The Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to a project funded by the NSF STC STEPS – Science and Technologies for Phosphorus Sustainability. This project is part of two broader efforts in the center: (1) to create a spatiotemporally dynamic phosphorus model for the entire U.S. and (2) to develop high-resolution phosphorus models for Triple Bottom Line sites in STEPS that utilize isotopic data to improve model development. The Postdoctoral Fellow will support these projects by (1) applying machine learning and remote sensing skills to develop a national database of animal feeding operations, and (2) develop a watershed-scale phosphorus model for the Indian Bend Wash in Central, Arizona. In this role, the Postdoctoral Fellow will also interact with and collaborate with researchers from a wide variety of disciplines in the Center as well as stakeholders engaged in STEPS work. Some field work to collect data for isotopic sampling may be required.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in disciplines such as biological engineering, environmental or civil engineering, agricultural, environmental, or hydrologic science, or a closely related field conferred by the start of employment

• Demonstrated experience (research presentations, dissertation, or publications) with hydrologic and water quality models, machine learning, geospatial sciences, and remote sensing

Preferred Qualifications:

• Good scientific communication skills as evidenced by publications and/or presentations at conferences

• Willingness to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment

• Demonstrated experience with environmental data management, processing, and modeling

• Demonstrated experience with mentoring student researchers
