Position Summary:

The Department of Physics at the University of South Florida, Tampa, seeks to fill a 9-month, full-time, tenure-earning position in Quantum Sensors at the Assistant Professor level.  The position start date is August 7, 2024.  All areas of sensors that encompasses new applications in disease diagnostics, environmental sensing, transportation, and stealth detection are included.  Emphasis is also given to sensor research that integrates with Quantum Computation, AI, and Machine Learning via computational techniques and principles of physics to healthcare.  Preference will be given to candidates with existing strengths in these areas.  Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.  The successful candidate is expected to establish a nationally recognized research program, teach effectively at the graduate and undergraduate level, and mentor student research at all levels.

The Department of Physics has strong research programs in experimental/theoretical biophysics, condensed matter, and optics. USF also offers excellent opportunities to interact with research programs in the College of Arts and Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, including the Moffitt Cancer Center. The National Science Foundation (NSF) ranked USF at No. 25 among public research universities for research spending.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):

Minimum Qualifications: The applicant must have a doctorate in Physics or closely related field from an accredited institution with the demonstrated record of achievements in academic research, and must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor.

Preferred Qualifications: Relevant postdoctoral experience and demonstrated potential to attract extramural funding and teach at undergraduate and graduate level.
