The Stanford Cancer Institute (SCI) at the Stanford University School of Medicine seeks innovative and collaborative researchers to join the Institute as an Assistant or Associate Professor in the University Tenure Line (UTL) or University Medical Line (UML). The successful candidate may be a postdoctoral fellow, clinical fellow, assistant professor, or associate professor with an established record of achievement or demonstrated substantial potential in cancer-relevant genome stability and/or DNA repair research. This can be evidenced by publications in leading scientific or medical journals.



  • The predominant criterion for appointment in the University Tenure Line is a major commitment to research and teaching.

  • The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the University Medical Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.

Faculty rank, line, and department will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Potential departments include: Medicine (Medical Oncology); ObGyn (Gynecologic Oncology); Radiation Oncology; Pathology; Pediatrics.

DNA repair and genome instability are driving forces in the initiation and progression of cancer and they have a strong impact on the response to various therapies. The SCI is searching for an expert in the area of DNA repair and DNA damage responses to develop a robust research program that can benefit from and interface with basic and clinical scientists in these areas and the broad expertise within Stanford University at large. Cancer areas of particular interest to the SCI and this biological focus include breast, ovarian, prostate and pancreatic cancer among others. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent research program that will contribute to our knowledge base in this area and/or to translational research efforts focusing on early phase clinical research. The successful candidate will be expected to teach graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and clinical fellows and participate in relevant clinical and basic science conferences. Based on the qualifications and research program of the selected candidate, some clinical responsibilities might be part of the overall role. Candidates must have a MD, MD/PhD or PhD.

Assistant Professor, PhD: $185,000-$203,000

Associate Professor, MD: $407,000 - $425,000

Pathology

Assistant Professor, MD: $255,000 - $273,000

This pay range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. It may not include all components of faculty compensation or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs.
