Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Director, New Ventures, Life Sciences for Innovation Ventures. This position will be responsible for building, attracting matching funds from donors, establishing an outside review board and overseeing relationships with the Rutgers University Foundation as well as the maintenance of the TechAdvance Fund.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Creates a mentoring program comprised of experienced executives, entrepreneurs, service providers and others who could provide Rutgers start-ups with advice and support.
  • Manages and leads all activities of the Office of New Ventures and Commercialization Funding (NVCF) including creation, funding and support of start-ups, licensing negotiations, pursuing business development opportunities, resolving compliance issues.
  • Works closely with the New Ventures Executive Director and licensing managers in pursuing start-up commercialization opportunities and negotiating licensing deals.
  • Serves as Rutgers point person for all internal and external contacts and activities related to new ventures and technology commercialization business development.
  • Supports all emerging Life Science start-ups, bolster existing Life Science Start Ups, assist with pitch decks, business plans, and support the review of any COI issues.
  • Leads negotiations related to deals with Rutgers start-ups including licenses, license options, equity and corporate agreements.
  • Maintains relationships with outside technology funding sources, e.g., QED, P1V, FVCG, VCs angels, etc.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Life Science degree (B.Sc., M.Sc., PhD). 
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in all aspects of technology commercialization activities.
  • A minimum of 10 years of negotiating complex technology transfer agreements.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in creating and developing start-ups; extensive interaction and established relationships with entrepreneurs, investors, and corporate lawyers.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • A track record of successful collaboration with university researchers in research commercialization.
  • Deal-making experience in the life sciences.
  • A deal sheet directly related to technology commercialization.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Academic credentials include M.B.A. or J.D.

Immunization Requirements


Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
