Open Postdoctoral position, faculty mentor Edda Spiekerkoetter

Stanford University

Job Description

We are pleased to announce the Stanford School of Medicine, department of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine has two Open Postdoctoral Fellowship Position in Cardio-Pulmonary-Vascular Research, to join our team at Stanford. Dr. Spiekerkoetter laboratory is interested in pulmonary vascular diseases with an emphasis on the pathogenesis and treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), right heart failure, pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (AVM) in hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) and the role of Bone Morphogenetic Protein Receptor 2 (BMPR2) signaling in these diseases.

We are using 3-D deep tissue imaging, mouse mutants and lineage tracing to answer questions about the molecular and anatomic structure of blood vessels in concert with extracellular matrix in health and disease. We collaborate closely with the laboratory of bioengineer Dr. Vitaly Kheyfets from the University of Colorado Denver on interventricular dependence as well as fluid dynamics of altered microvascular networks in the pressure overloaded right ventricle. Furthermore, we use high-throughput-screening, induced pluripotent stem cells and bioinformatic approaches to identify and test repurposed and repositioned drugs using in vitro and in vivo models of HHT and PAH with the ultimate goal to identify novel candidates to be tested in clinical trials.
