Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Business, Society and the Economy (BSE) Program within the College Park Scholars Program is seeking an Assistant Director. BSE is an exciting living-learning community of 180 high-achieving freshman and sophomores with interdisciplinary majors and interests. The Assistant Director is the senior staff person who helps support these students and work with the faculty director to lead this program. This person will maintain a regular presence in the BSE Program Office in the Cambridge Community to help design co-curricular programs and aid in the logistical, organizational, and programmatic support to build community. Details of the position are described below. Some weekend and evening work is required, some remote work is possible.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a position-related field.

Experience:
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of experience in a related field. 
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience. 
  • Experience in student advising and/or career counseling for college graduates.
  • Experience managing budgets and logistics surrounding travel and other experiences for large groups. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 
  • Interest and empathy in supporting college freshmen and sophomores; knowledge of contemporary business; demonstrated excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; proficient computer skills.



Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Master’s degree preferred. 
  • At least one year of teaching or facilitation experience at the college level or working with a university living-learning program. 
  • Skill as an effective and innovative facilitator or mentor, with a demonstrated interest in the value of community-building, out-of-classroom experiences, multi-disciplinary pedagogies, and a business education. 
  • Experience with a learning management system, graphic design, and social media. 
  • Experience in event planning.
  • Experience in engaging with for-profit and non-for-profit organizations to create collaboration with learning institutions. 
  • Experience with College Park Scholars or other student-facing programs at the University of Maryland.
