Job Description


standardized tests, experiments and determinations to obtain data for biological research purposes. Compile, analyze, document, and draw tentative conclusions from experimental results. Work independently. Confer with principal investigator to review work assignments and develop plans for research experiments. Make modifications to existing laboratory procedures and techniques to meet the needs of particular equipment or research questions of interest. Review laboratory methods manuals, scientific journals, abstract and other literature for information applicable to research experiments. Experience and familiarity with the following molecular biology techniques is critical: DNA cloning, PCR, protein expression and purification, Western blotting, DNA library preparation for high-throughput sequencing experiments. Experience with yeast and mammalian cell culture is desirable.

Duties (work performed):

- Technical duties: DNA cloning and sequencing, PCR, bacterial transformation; protein expression and purification, Western blots, Bradford assays; protein-DNA binding assays; DNA library preparation for high-throughput sequencing experiments, basic processing of high-throughput sequencing data; yeast cell culture.

- Compile, analyze, document, and draw tentative conclusions from experimental results.

- Determine and set up instruments, material and apparatus and operate standard equipment required for specific tests.

- Perform routine laboratory management activities: order supplies and keep a sufficient inventory of material, supplies, and equipment for performance of duties.

- Prepare culture media, chemicals, reagents, and solutions; clean and maintain laboratory equipment.

- Work closely with students and postdoctoral fellows on ongoing research projects.

- Assist in training new laboratory personnel, including students and postdoctoral fellows.

- Prepare documentation for, and assist with, laboratory safety audits.

- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
