Position Summary:

The American Physical Society (APS) seeks an Honors Program Manager to drive the APS Society and Unit recognition programs, shaping a diverse, global landscape of honorees. As the orchestrator of our Honors Program, you'll collaborate closely with volunteers and APS leadership to ensure impeccable execution of our annual APS Fellows, Awards, and Historic Sites selections. Your role as the Honors Program Manager will be at the heart of making dreams of recognition a reality for physicists worldwide. You'll guide the journey from nomination to spotlight, working with the best and brightest in the field and overseeing the coordination of prestigious events. Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all Honors and APS Fellowship selection process.
  • Work closely with volunteer leaders and the Honors Nominations Coordinator to promote and facilitate APS Fellowship, society level prizes and awards, and solicit nominations.
  • Work with Honors Engagement Coordinator to deliver high quality support for fund disbursement, invited talk placement, and Honors materials for events and recipients.
  • Work with Honors Program Administrator to support component recognition program management.
  • Manage the allocation calculation, alternate selection, and approval process for the prestigious APS Fellows program.
  • Work with Meetings Department on placement of recipients/invited talks at Society meetings.
  • Work with Meetings Department and Assistant Director, Member Engagement & Recognition to plan and execute 3 annual society prize & award ceremonies.
  • Assist the Society CEO with presentation of certificates, awards, and medals at annual APS Prizes & Awards ceremonies.
  • Work with recipients, Marketing Department, and external vendors to produce digital and video promotional materials.
  • Coordinate with the APS Historic Sites Committee to review and select future historic sites; including creation of promotional and recognition collateral and coordination of events.
  • Staff administrator to APS Medal & Society Selection Committee, LeRoy Apker Award Selection Committee, and APS Committees on Fellowship and Prizes & Awards.
  • Interface with APS Council of Representatives and Presidential line to facilitate selection, approval, and recognition of top society prizes and awards.
  • Collaborates with the Development Department in stewardship of funding for Society Honors and with unit executive committees to ensure adequate funding for Unit Honors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • In lieu of a Bachelor's degree four years of equivalent work experience preferably in a science background may be accepted.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience and demonstrated accomplishments in program administration, volunteer management and/or project management.
  • Minimum of 4 years supervisory experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with the physics/science research community preferred.
  • Proficiency with all Microsoft Office Suite products, in particular Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency with Google Docs and other online shared document products.
  • Strong organization, documentation, and prioritization skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to quickly changing schedules.
  • Ability to work well with interdepartmental teams as well as independently.

Travel: The position requires travel to recognition ceremonies and reception events as part of its core responsibilities, as well as additional travel as assigned.

Salary:
The salary range for this role considers the factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, and other business and organizational needs. APS's Compensation Philosophy is to manage salaries at the midpoint of the market. Therefore, it is the practice to hire within the entry - midpoint range.

Full Range: $86,165k/year - $129,247k/year (USD)

Target Range: $86,165k/year - $107,706k/year (USD)

Work Environment:
As noted above, APS offers a “Remote First” workplace. Although our Editorial Offices are located on Long Island, you can work from other places in the United States. We are flexible about work hours, but expect responsiveness during the core of the workday, Eastern Time.
