Job Description

The University of Texas Permian Basin's College of Business, Department of Accounting, Finance, & Energy welcomes applications for a non-tenure track, full-time teaching position as a Lecturer in Accounting. Teaching expertise in Cost Accounting and Financial Accounting is a priority, but other areas of emphasis will be considered. Position beginning date: January 2023 or September 2023.

The College of Business offers the following AACSB-accredited programs: BBA in Accounting, Finance, Energy Land Management, Management, and Marketing; Master in Business Administration, Master of Professional Accountancy, MS in Finance, and MS in Energy Business. The College enrolls about 2000 students and has twenty-one full-time faculty members. The College is home to the Roden Center for Entrepreneurship and the Center for Energy Industry Analysis. The University of Texas Permian Basin provides excellent facilities for instructional and curricular activities and research and development.

Essential Functions


 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: We seek individuals with a passion for teaching and a desire to engage students in the classroom. Teaching undergraduate classes on campus and online. Undergraduate classes on campus in the college typically range from 12-45 students. The University sponsors a range of developmental activities for faculty, supported by the Heimmermann Center for Engaged Teaching. While this is a full-time teaching position on a 9-month contract, candidates are welcome to further their research by utilizing the College of Business's excellent facilities and computational resources. There are additional opportunities for summer teaching assignments.

SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES:
Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members include teaching and service activities as assigned.
1. Non-tenure track, full-time teaching position on a 9-month contract.
2. Maintain AACSB faculty qualifications by UTPB standards through sustained professional and/or research engagement activities.
3. Lecturers are expected to teach undergraduate courses.
4. Face-to-face and online teaching interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus for a minimum of four days a week.
5. Teach 24 – 27 credit hours per contract year.
6. Assist in collecting assessment data as outlined by the college (for SACSCOC and AACSB accreditations).
7. Achieve appropriate student-learning outcomes in all courses taught.
8. Faculty are expected to employ sound pedagogical practices and use appropriate technology.
9. Student course evaluations are to be completed in each course.
10. Abide by deadlines and processes for submitting grades.
11. Advise students and provide individual help to students during weekly office hours.
12. Participate in course revisions and curriculum development, as assigned.
13. Work with other faculty and staff to advance the program.
14. Maintain faculty qualifications through professional and academic engagement activities.
15. Attend department, college, and university faculty meetings.
16. Attend convocations, commencement exercises, recruitment activities, and community meetings.

Required Qualifications


 

1. Master's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a business discipline.
2. Eighteen (18) graduate credits in Accounting or current CPA license or current CMA certification.
3. Five (5) years of industry experience or three years of industry experience holding a professional certification.
4. Ability to teach courses in the following areas: Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting.

Preferred Qualifications


 

1. Master of Accounting from an AACSB-accredited program.
2. Current CPA license.
3. College-level teaching experience, which may include teaching as a graduate student.
4. Experience with students’ academic mentoring.
5. Demonstrated work history providing evidence of excellent written and oral communication skills.

Schedule

Generally, the hours for this position are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 – 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.


Standard Working Conditions

1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
6. Standard working conditions may differ depending on department and occupation.
