Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park is seeking an Program Coordinator. The Program Coordinator supports the activities of the new BS Embedded Systems and the Internet of Things offered at the Universities at Shady Grove. Regular duties of the position include recruitment and outreach to prospective students, counseling current students on various issues related to academic and student services, and managing multiple special events throughout the year such as open houses, orientation, and professional development workshops. The Program Coordinator works closely with multiple university constituents including students, faculty, and staff.

** Note: this position will be primarily located at the Universities at Shady Grove campus; there may be some occasional travel required to the College Park campus.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education
  •  Bachelor’s degree 

Experience
  • A minimum of two years of full-time related higher education experience. 
  • A Master’s degree in Higher Education or Student Affairs may substitute for experience. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills, with high attention to detail. 
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently, and with a team, on complex projects and demonstrate competency, diplomacy, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact.
  • Ability to work and problem solve in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment, prioritizing tasks, thinking proactively, and using good judgment and experience to make decisions and maintain deadlines.
  • Ability to interact effectively and build strong working relationships with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community and complex environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments while maintaining a high level of accuracy. 
  • Possess enthusiasm and a positive approach to work, diplomatic in working with people with competing priorities. 
  • Proficient in working with Microsoft Office tools.

Preferences:

  • A Master’s degree in Higher Education or Student Affairs. 
  • Experience in undergraduate academic advising, higher education student personnel administration, and/or counseling in higher education. 
  • Prior experience with peer mentoring programs and advising STEM college students.

Physical Demands

  • Mostly sedentary work performed in an office environment requiring the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards for extended times.
  • Ability to review, prepare, and analyze data and figures, transcribe, and engage extensive reading of materials and computer screens.
  • Ability to travel around campus and between the Shady Grove and College Park campuses for meetings and to attend to duties. 
  • Occasional night and weekend work.
