Dean of Academic Affairs

 


Bargaining Unit/Salary Level:

Consistent with the Maine Community College System Confidential Salary Schedule Level 8

Responsibilities:

The Dean of Academic Affairs is the chief academic officer of the college. The Dean reports to the President and is in a highly visible role inside and outside of the college. Essential functions include, but are not limited to: responsible for the administration and supervision of the academic affairs division; ensures the establishment and implementation of quality teaching and learning standards and addresses related concerns; collaborates with faculty on curriculum development and program innovation; counsels students on academic matters; oversees the academic sanction process for probation, suspension and dismissal; develops and implements an assessment program for departments within academic affairs; coordinates/leads program review process; oversees course scheduling/offerings from an enrollment management perspective; prepares and monitors a budget; follows and consistently interprets collective bargaining agreement language; administers the provisions of individual faculty contracts; organizes and supports faculty development programs; represents the college in the community; and serves as the liaison to the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) regional accrediting body. As a member of the college’s senior leadership team, the Dean is involved in college-wide and long-term strategic planning, and is responsible to coordinate with other areas of the college for the timely delivery of services and information as needed. The successful candidate must be organized and exhibit follow through on tasks and goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters degree
  • 5-7 years administrative and/or teaching experience at the post-secondary level
  • 5 years supervision experience
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple large-scale projects simultaneously
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Terminal degree
  • Supervision experience in a collective bargaining environment
  • Experience with higher education regional accreditation standards and procedures
