General Description
Niagara County Community College is seeking dedicated, motivated individuals for a full-time, tenure-track music instructor to provide leadership, engagement, and discipline expertise in continuing to move the program forward in innovative ways, beginning in the 2023-2024 academic year. As a full-time faculty member at Niagara County Community College, successful candidates will demonstrate commitment to student success through teaching and learning excellence as well as artistic direction for the program’s performances.

The successful candidate for this position will have relevant professional experience in the music industry and focused academic study necessary to provide instruction in a full range of courses which might include Beginning Voice, Guitar Class, Music History and Repertoire, American Popular Music, Jazz Combo, College Choir, Piano Musicianship, Written Theory, Aural Skills, Audition Preparation, Conducting, Music Appreciation, and Foundations of Music Theory.

Responsibilities include teaching 18 contact hours of lab and/or lecture per semester or 15 credits of lecture only, student advisement, curriculum and course development, recruitment, play production, preparation for a spring musical, and participation in college and departmental activities. The person selected may be appointed as the Program Coordinator for Music AS and Music Cert. programs in the future. Teaching load assignments will be made based on the selected candidate’s experience, background, and institutional need. The successful candidate will be required to work only 162 days per academic year (August – May) and will be provided with a winter break from mid-December to early January, and a Spring Break for one week in mid-March.

In addition to the base salary, there are avenues to increase the salary by teaching overload, teaching winter or summer courses, doing special assignments etc. There is a tenure track pathway for promotion to higher level salaries of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor.

Essential Functions
Ability to navigate relationships with diverse populations. Ability to advise students for classes, transfer options, and career opportunities in the field. Must be able to physically perform the duties of the position.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in music or related degree
  • Experience teaching music courses in a college setting
  • Professional experience in the music industry

Desirable Qualifications
  • Three years of teaching experience in the following disciplines: History, Theory, Instruments/Ensemble
  • Current and ongoing experience as a professional musician (e.g., as a performing artist);
  • Experience as an Ensemble Director
  • Experience with administrative functions such as budgeting, purchasing, program recruitment, program and course development, collaborative production of musicals including dancers and musicians;
  • Experience with community education and outreach
  • Experience with grant writing
