About the Organization

The Los Angeles-based Pacific Council on International Policy is an independent and nonpartisan membership organization dedicated to harnessing the vast potential of the West Coast to influence global issues, discourse, and policy. Established in 1995, the Pacific Council hosts discussion events on matters of international importance, convenes task forces and working groups to address pressing policy challenges, leads international delegations, and fosters a global network of like-minded members across the West Coast and beyond.

The Pacific Council comprises business and civic leaders, policy experts, and aspiring leaders with a shared dedication to international affairs. Members play a vital role, bringing together individuals from diverse industries to exchange ideas, stay informed on global matters, and drive change both locally and internationally. Beyond traditional policymakers and diplomats, the Council recognizes the growing influence of global thinkers in technology, entertainment, media, business, education, health, science, and the arts in shaping the U.S.’s relationship with the world.

The Pacific Council’s mission centers on strengthening Los Angeles’s and California’s capacity to impact global concerns, engagement, and governance. The Council’s vision involves fostering a world where a spirit of internationalism drives global engagement, while diverse perspectives inform policy decisions. The organization’s values revolve around global engagement, inclusivity, objectivity, civility, respect, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

The Council’s focus on “local-to-global” connections involves linking local experiences to global policies and actions. This perspective highlights topics like climate, human rights, and technology, particularly in the context of Los Angeles. The Council aims to showcase for local communities how their actions and policies can have global ramifications and, conversely, help international leaders understand the impact of global policies on local communities. The Pacific Council strives to lead the local-to-global discussion, guiding its members and the wider community in recognizing the reciprocal influence of local and global actions.
