We seek candidates working in astrophysics whose research interests complement and expand those of our current astrophysics faculty including multi-wavelength studies of galaxy structure and evolution, high-energy phenomena in galaxies (X-ray binaries and AGN), black holes, and gravitational wave sources -- see https://fulbright.uark.edu/departments/physics/research/areas/astronomy-... for more details. Qualified candidates working in all areas of astrophysics, both observational and theoretical, are welcome to apply.

The requirements are a Ph.D. degree in astronomy/astrophysics or a closely related field, as well as demonstrated ability and commitment to excellence in independent research through an active research agenda and scholarly productivity beyond the Ph.D.  The successful candidate is expected to establish a research program capable of attracting funding from outside sources and to mentor graduate students in our Ph.D. program. Faculty members are expected to contribute to the teaching and service activities of the Physics Department and the University.  Teaching duties include undergraduate and/or graduate student course instruction at a level commensurate with an R1 research institution and mentoring both graduate and undergraduate students in research.

The position includes funds that support the hiring of a postdoctoral researcher, a PhD student, travel, and other research support funds.

Follow the University of Arkansas Application Link (provided below) for instructions on how to apply and further details.  Completed applications received by 11/1/2023, will be assured full consideration. Late applications will be reviewed as necessary to fill the position.

Applicants must submit a cover letter/letter of application, a curriculum vitae, and an academic excellence statement. This statement should discuss past, current, or planned future contributions to inclusive excellence in teaching, research, and service in Astrophysics and/or Physics.

Applicants should also be prepared to provide the information for three professional references (name, title, email address, and phone number) willing to provide letters of recommendation upon request during the application process. Applicants will receive an email prompt from the U of A Workday system and a task on their application page to submit this information after applying.
