Position Summary

The seamstress is responsible for fitting and alterations on cadet uniforms, military uniforms and civilian clothing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
In addition to adhering to general staff policies and guidelines specified by the Alabama Community College System, Faculty/Staff Handbook, President, Senior Vice President and Commandant of Cadets, and Director of Auxiliary Service, the successful candidate will also perform/comply with the following duties:


  • Reports directly to the Director of Auxiliary Services.
  • Works at the Uniform Department however may be asked to work at the Tiger’s Den Bookstore or the mailroom to include maintaining inventory count and accuracy, stocking shelves, cleaning and selling items.
  • Ensures assigned working areas are open during the posted hours, which requires arriving at least five minutes beforehand.
  • Performs fittings and alterations on, cadet uniforms, military uniforms and civilian clothing.
  • Installs patches and stripes on jackets and Utility uniforms.
  • Operates, cleans, calibrates and adjusts sewing machines.
  • Maintains high moral and ethical standards.
  • Works well with others and shows respect to all college constituents.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Auxiliary Services.

 

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION, STANDARDS, AND TRAINING:


  • A minimum of 5 years of related work experience in hand and machine sewing techniques is required.
  • Knowledge of industrial sewing machines (straight stitch and blind stitch).
  • Knowledge to set-up and to adjust machines.
  • Knowledge of clothing structure and materials.
  • Ability to work independently and sit for long periods of time with head down and use sewing machines involving needles, as well as hand sewing needles.
  • Must be able to work nonstandard hours.
  • Ensures all doors are secured and locked during any breaks, at lunch and at the end of the day.
  • Maintains high moral and ethical standards.
  • Works well with others and show respect to all college constituents.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Auxiliary Services.

REQUIRED LICENSE, CERTIFICATION, OR SPECIAL CREDENTIALS:
  • None.

  • None.

SALARY: Salary Schedule E5 06 00-06 $23,918.40-29,356.80 (10 month s) ; based on relevant education and experience.

PROJECTED START DATE: ASAP.
