The Department of Surgery is seeking a Research Professional to support the research functions (including in vivo studies) at the Institute for Cellular Transplantation (ICT).

Research at the ICT focuses on cell therapies, tissue engineering, and artificial organ research and is developing an implantable medical device that will be used in a cell-based therapy for the treatment of diabetes. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, be well-organized, and have experience with histology and histo techniques. The candidate must be able to work independently as well as collaborate with others within the laboratory.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conducts components of research projects at the Institute for Cellular Transplantation (ICT), including standard laboratory tasks and in vivo studies.
  • Collaborates with senior researchers to design research methodologies for cell therapies, tissue engineering, and artificial organ research, as well as an implantable medical device that will be used in a cell-based therapy for the treatment of diabetes.  
  • Designs databases for research purposes, and assists in data analysis and preparation of data summaries/reports/ presentations/publications. Conducts literature reviews.
  • Uses analyzed data to assist in the development of grant applications and preparation of reports of research results.
  • Maintains exceptional and detailed written/electronic records of experimental data as required.
  • Complies with regulatory guidelines and standards.
  • Assists and trains staff, undergraduate and graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars on equipment operation and research techniques, and performing and designing experiments in the laboratory.
  • Identifies and recommends solutions to identifiable problems.
  • Provides laboratory management, administrative, and technical support to research projects, including photocopies, files, and record keeping.
  • Support other testing needs of the laboratory as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
  • One (1) year of relevant work experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Biology, Physiology, Biomedical Sciences, Genetics, Biophysics, Biomedical Engineering, Life Sciences, or related field.
  • Experience with histology, imaging, and H&E staining.
  • Experience with GxP compliance.
