Assistant Professor (Experimental Particle Physics)

Cornell University

Job Description

Assistant Professor (Experimental Particle Physics)

Tenure-track Faculty Position in Experimental Particle Physics at the assistant professor level.

The Physics Department at Cornell University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position pursuing experimental particle physics research. We seek candidates with demonstrated excellence in research including productivity, technical ability, breadth, and originality; with potential for future scientific impact at Cornell and globally as demonstrated by ambitious but realistic research vision and goals; with potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring graduate students, undergraduate students, and postdoctoral researchers; and with potential to enrich the diversity and excellence of the academic community.

Cornell currently participates in the CMS experiment at CERN's Large Hadron Collider, with related activities in the Fermilab g-2 and PSI precision pion (PIONEER) experiments and in studies of the early universe through carbon intensity mapping (TIME), submillimeter astronomy (CCAT-prime) and CMB-S4. Our efforts span experiment design, data analysis, and detector development and benefit from coordinated programs in particle theory and accelerator science, as well as from extensive technical infrastructure and support. The successful candidate would join the existing CMS effort but is also expected to develop the future research directions of the Cornell experimental particle physics group.

A Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field is required. Required materials are a cover letter, curriculum vitae with publication list, statement of research, statement of teaching and mentoring philosophy, and three letters of recommendation submitted to
