Overview
The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, located on the George H. Cook Campus, is one of the largest schools of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. We pursue excellence in research, teaching, and outreach in areas of study that address the biological spectrum from molecules to ecosystems. Our emphasis is on both the fundamental sciences and the social and human dimensions. We offer 21 undergraduate majors, including plant and animal sciences, microbiology, biotechnology, agriculture and food systems, landscape architecture, food and nutritional sciences, ecology and evolution, marine science and oceanography, environmental sciences and meteorology, human ecology, entomology, and environmental economics.
In addition to instruction in the classroom, field, and laboratory, our students have opportunities for experiential learning on and off campus, including a growing emphasis on international experiences through short- and long-term study abroad. Students also have access to a robust program of applied research and outreach hosted by the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station laboratories, farms, business incubators, and marine stations throughout the state.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Senior Graphic Designer and Multimedia Content Creator for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. Reporting to the Senior Director of Public Outreach and Communication, this position is an integral part of the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (SEBS) and New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station’s (NJAES) brand strategy. This position will serve as the department’s leader in graphic design, photography, videography, and social media content.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Leads the department in multimedia content across our communication channels such as social media and websites.
  • Assists in the development and execution of marketing campaigns for the unit’s digital channels and produces content that will drive varied audiences to resources and programs across SEBS and NJAES. This work will include both print and digital work.
  • Designs pamphlets, brochures, concept and story development, gathers video and audio footage, edits, and archives of branded, short-form, and long-form videos used primarily on the web are routine projects.
  • Supports the senior director’s strategic goals for content development and will also supervise a full-time graphic designer.
  • Uses tactful planning to execute the strategy of the content to capture and engage the desired audiences.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent level of highly-relevant experience in communication, marketing, and design environment.
  • A minimum of five years of professional marketing experience is required.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have audio and video editing and capturing skills, project management experience, and extensive social media content development experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Fine Arts and experience working in higher education is preferred.
  • The Senior Graphic Designer and Multimedia Content Creator will be at a master level in the use of native platforms for Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn, and Twitter/X.
  • The specialist will demonstrate a high level of proficiency and knowledge using social media reporting tools such as Talkwalker, and social media management tools such as Sprout.
Equipment Utilized
  • The Senior Graphic Designer and Multimedia Content Creator will be at a master level in Adobe Creative Cloud and other media content editing tools.
  • The incumbent will also serve as an expert in the use of media production equipment including microphones, professional photography/videography cameras, and content editing software.
