Position Summary | The Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill offers a global health training opportunity to postdocs. This is an 11-month mentored training program offered at 23 academic institutions/training site in 18 countries worldwide. The focus areas of research in communicable and non-communicable diseases range from medical, dental, nursing, pharmacy, to public health and veterinary medicine and cancer from the National Cancer Institute. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | The typical post-doctoral trainee will have completed highly relevant doctoral training in medical, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, public health or veterinary medicine or related areas and have been awarded a MD, PhD or equivalent terminal degree. |

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | Preferred candidates will have previous experience conducting clinical or social research on global health related issues. Preferred candidates will also have a strong publication record and demonstrated experience in research study design and project implementation. Fellowship competencies include: -Full understanding of framing research question, research design & methods and project implementation -Understanding of NIH structure and approaches to obtaining funding in global health research (specific to the fellows area of study) and other government/foundation funding mechanisms. -Demonstrated proficiency in oral and poster presentations, scientific/manuscript writing, grant writing -Understanding of supply chain in international procurement (project budgeting and expense tracking) -Understanding of mentor/mentee relationship, professional networking and engaging in career building activities and opportunities |
