Occ Summary

General overview:

 Our Brain Tumor Center has a strong track record for successfully transitioning hired candidates to independent grant funding and next-level training or faculty positions. Duke University is in the vibrant research environment of the Research Triangle Park in Durham, North Carolina. Experience with preclinical mouse modelling, immunology, in vivo microscopy and bioluminescent imaging, bioinformatics (single cell and other novel omics technologies), complex tissue culture and genome editing, and clinical trial development is desirable but is not required. We can provide necessary and systematic training in these areas depending on the prior experience, level of training and long-term goals.    

Our preclinical and clinical projects are spearheaded by an outstanding complement of graduate students, medical students, research associates, postdoctoral fellows, and junior and senior scientists within the Duke Brain Tumor Center.

Immunotherapeutic approaches include dendritic cell vaccines, peptide vaccines, protein vaccines, biologics such as antibodies, bispecific antibodies, oncolytic viruses, recombinant chemokines/cytokines T cell based and other cellular therapies. These immunotherapeutic strategies are to be evaluated in immunocompetent and immunocompromised preclinical models.

Preference will be given to highly self-motivated individuals interested in career advancement and growth opportunities. 

Job responsibilities:

  • Confer with Supervisor in developing plans for research projects and to discuss the interpretation of results and the preparation of manuscripts for publication.
  • Supervise the work of other listed Lab personnel engaged in the collection and tabulation of data; train new personnel.
  • Performing animal work on the projects of endogenous dendritic cell migration in the CNS and on development of spontaneous high-grade glioma tumors in mice.
  • Development of methodology using mouse MRI of spontaneous tumors (There is a collaboration with the SAIL, Small Animal Imaging Laboratory, in the Bryan Research Bldg).
  • Prepare preliminary data for grant applications, meeting abstracts, or primary publications
  • Prepare data generated by candidate for Lab Meeting every other week

Preferences:

Candidates with experience in the following (ideally > 2 years’ experience):

  • Preclinical animal handling and experimental techniques
  • Development of novel laboratory techniques
  • Oversight and teaching of laboratory personnel in at least two laboratory procedures or techniques

Minimum Qualifications
Education

Work requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.


Experience

Work requires two years of research experience. A related master's OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE degree may offset required years of experience on a 1:1 basis, e.g., a two year master's degree in lieu of two years of experience.
