Position Highlights The Hamilton Research Group is seeking up to two Postdoctoral Associates to conduct research related to planetary surface processes. Hires would develop a research program related to planetary volcanology and be expected to prepare original scientific research manuscripts for peer-review and assist with mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students.

Positions are for one-year, renewable, for additional time.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct original research and prepare scientific publications for peer-review.
  • Conduct lab maintenance activities, such as charging batteries, updating software, and participating in lab management.  
  • Mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Planetary Sciences, Earth sciences, Astronomy, Information Sciences, Computer Science, or a related field upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications No one person will have all of the following, but desired experience includes knowledge of one or more of the following subject areas:
1. Volcanic processes on the Earth, Moon, Mars, Venus, and/or Io;
2. Cryovolcanic processes on Europa and Enceladus;
3. Machine learning applications within planetary sciences;
4. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing (e.g., ArcMAP or Arc Pro);
5. Programming experience in Matlab, C, or Python;
6. Photogrammetry, with experience in Agisoft Metashape or Socet Set;
7. Statistics and informatics, with experience in R or Python;
8. Finite Element Modeling (FEM), with experience in Comsol Multiphystics;
9. precision surveying, with expertise in LiDAR, Unoccupied Aircraft Systems (UAS), and/or Global Positioning Systems (GPS);
10. Expertise in volcanic volatiles and sample analysis, ranging from geochemistry to x-ray computed tomography, or rheologicial investigations;
11. Astrobiology; or
12. Computer systems administration.
