Job Description

The Laboratory of Auditory Neurophysiology at Virginia Tech has an opening for a postdoctoral position in auditory neuroscience. The position will last for two years. The research project aims to describe the cortical circuits responsible for auditory object recognition and the production of vocalizations using echolocating bats as a model.

Our lab investigates the neural mechanisms in the cortex responsible for auditory-vocal integration. We employ a multi-disciplinary approach that includes bioacoustics, behavioral training, multi-electrode electrophysiology, and modeling to understand the role of the auditory cortex to process complex natural sounds and its connections with vocal production centers. We use an auditory specialist, echolocating bats, making it possible to directly measure how auditory perception of complex sounds is altered when discreet cell types within auditory cortical microcircuits are reversibly manipulated. The position also will involve many opportunities for professional development.

Interested applicants should apply online at www.jobs.vt.edu. Please include a current Curriculum Vitae, Research Statement and contact information of three(3) references. Please, visit the lab website at www.macias-lab.com. Potential applicants are encouraged to contact Dr. Silvio Macias at silvio@vt.edu to discuss the position.
