Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Staff Nurse for the department of OB GYN for the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The Staff Nurse in collaboration with physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the healthcare team, oversees, coordinates and provides focused, episodic care to Clinical Operations patients. This care encompasses health promotion, health maintenance, or management of health-related problems that is delivered in face-to-face or telephone encounters. Additional Responsibilities includes: delegation, direction and supervision of the activities of Clinical Operations LPN’s and non-nursing clinical staff to meet the needs of Clinical Operations patients.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Greets the patient in a friendly, forthright manner, making sure to always maintain eye contact and a strong smile.
  • Answers the telephone with a pleasant demeanor, always identifying self, and location.
  • Utilizes the nursing process to systematically assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document a plan of care individualized for patient, group, or population in face-to-face and telephone encounters.
  • Engages in ongoing performance improvement activities to enhance the quality and effectiveness of one’s clinical and professional nursing practice, and that of the Clinical Operations organizational system.
  • Arranges for prenatal patient follow-up whenever necessary and administration of fetal monitoring with appropriate assessment and intervention if indicated.
  • Administers medications and phlebotomy services and collects laboratory test results.
  • Engages in continuing education to attain knowledge and competency that reflects the current state of ambulatory care nursing practice and that will enable the Staff Nurse to contribute to the fulfillment of Clinical Operations mission as it relates to the delivery of quality healthcare.
  • Fosters an environment that nurtures collaboration, teamwork, and mutual respect through effective communication as demonstrated by positive relationships with patients, family members/caregivers, Clinical Operations staff, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure the delivery of healthcare that is safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and patient-centered.
  • Demonstrates leadership behaviors in the Clinical Operations practice setting, across the profession, and in the community.
  • Actively engages in Clinical Operations organizational initiatives that create and maintain an internal environment that is safe, hazard-free, confidential, and comfortable for patients, family members/caregivers, and staff.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a license to practice in the State of New Jersey as a Registered Nurse (RN required).
  • Must have at least two (2) years of outpatient experience.
Certifications/Licenses
  • BLS certification.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Telephone triage skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Electronic Medical Record.
  • Ability to type and talk at the same time while navigating a Windows environment.
  • Excellent oral and written business English proficiency communication skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills are required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BSN and three to five (3-5) years of experience.
  • Acute inpatient experience of one (1) year or more.
  • At least one (1) year of experience with electronic medical records.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Position requires standing, walking, sitting, use of the hands and to finger, handle or feel, talk and hear 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms over 1/3 of the time, stop, Neil, Crouch or crawl under 1/3 of the time. Position requires lifting 1/3 of the time up to 10lbs and under one third of the time up to 25 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Moderate noise environment with some exposure (less than 1/3 of the time) to blood borne pathogens requiring the use of personal protective equipment; some potential exposure (less than 1/3 of the time) to hazardous waste.
