Job Description

Post-Doctoral Scientist - Analytical Development and Operations

Summary:

Analytical Development and Operations is looking for a highly motivated Post‑Doctoral Scientist to pursue cutting-edge research and development work using state-of-the-art 2D-LC/MS technology. The successful candidate will focus on establishing comprehensive strategies for streamlining stereochemical purity assessments, mass balance investigations, and analysis of impurities in highly complex mixtures.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will initiate an independent research project to lead development of orthogonal separation conditions using two-dimensional liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (2D-LC/MS) for peak purity analysis, mass balance investigations, and low-level impurity identification. In this role, you will also perform qualitative and quantitative data analysis of comprehensive 2D-LC data using GC Image LCxLC software. The expectation is that this work will result in novel contributions to support the development of procedures for stereoisomeric characterization and quantitation, as well as methods for low-level impurity identification. The selected candidate will be required to present studies internally and publish findings in leading scientific journals and conferences. The Post‑Doctoral Scientist will work in a highly collaborative environment at Gilead through a 2-year term, with an option to extend an additional third year. This position also provides access to world class research facilities and the opportunity to leverage expertise and resources across multiple functional areas at Gilead.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Candidate should possess a Doctoral degree and have a strong background in analytical chemistry, pharmaceutical development, chemical engineering, or a highly related science discipline.
  • Qualified candidates must have at least one first author paper published or accepted in a peer-reviewed journal.
  • Candidates must have strong in-depth knowledge of chromatographic separations and mass spectrometry techniques.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with chiral and achiral separation using UPLC/HPLC instrumentation with UV and/or MS detection.
  • Working knowledge of various commercial mass spectrometry techniques (using Q, QqQ, TOF, Orbitrap), data processing software (e.g., Xcalibur, ChemStation, MassHunter, MassLynx), and statistics.
  • A successful track record of peer-reviewed journal publications and presentations.
  • Previous success working effectively in a multidisciplinary, highly matrixed environment.
  • Excellent decision-making, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to think critically, plan and execute experiments independently, and contribute in a fast-paced, highly dynamic environment.
