This position is for our campuses in Austin and Round Rock.

Challenger School seeks an enthusiastic individual to teach computer science, word processing, and computer literacy at the elementary (1st through 8th grade) level.

The computer curriculum specifically teaches students to take the concepts used in computer programming to develop their logic and critical thinking skills. At Challenger, teachers not only educate students but assist students to become self-reliant and productive individuals who value independence and individuality; finding joy and self-worth through achievement.

The computer science teacher is responsible for:

  • Learning and properly delivering Challenger’s curriculum and methodology to include conceptual assignments and programming projects, daily and weekly lesson plans that support objectives and assessments, and activities that effectively review previously learned material
  • Teaching students to apply the concepts and methods used in computer science to develop their logic and critical thinking skills in general
  • Guiding students to develop and recognize the value of self-reliance, individuality, and productivity as they work independently on programming projects and other assignments
  • Effective classroom behavior management in accordance with Challenger philosophy
  • Oversee proper student use of PCs and other equipment in a computer lab and communicate needed maintenance and other issues to the appropriate department
  • The safety and well-being of Challenger students

The computer science teacher is required to:

  • Be able to enthusiastically work with young students who are new to computer languages and concepts.
  • Have a strong background and experience in computer programming, information technology, and/or a mathematical or technical discipline
  • Pass a background check
  • Be familiar with programming, especially Python
  • Have a friendly and confident demeanor and to work patiently with students, and co-workers
  • Possess a strong work ethic and a desire to support Challenger curriculum and methods
