Summary

Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, is seeking applicants for a part-time position as Instructor in the School of Health Professions to direct the Pharmacology course series and teach in the Biochemistry course.  Located in The Texas Medical Center -- the largest medical center in the world - and in the most diverse city in the nation, Baylor College of Medicine and our highly regarded graduate degree programs provide an ideal home for individuals seeking to play a key role in health professions education. 

The successful candidate will be a dynamic and energetic individual who is ready to develop innovations in teaching and evaluation, in collaboration with our faculty and administrative staff.

 

The Instructor will contribute to the general organization, development, and delivery of Pharmacology and Biochemistry courses within the School of Health Professions. 


Job Duties
  • Coordinate and deliver lectures in Pharmacology and Biochemistry to students across degree programs within the School of Health Professions (Nurse Anesthesia, Physician Assistant).
  • Provide didactic, laboratory, and small group teaching.
  • Review curricula to ensure content and delivery are consistently of high quality.
  • Ensure assigned courses are appropriately updated with the latest evidence and concepts.  
  • Establish and assess student learning outcomes.  
  • Utilize a variety of instructional and assessment strategies to communicate concepts and ensure learning.  
  • Engage in continuous quality improvement to ensure educational excellence.  
  • Provide input pertaining to personnel, budget, and space planning.  
  • Prepare education and outcomes reports when requested by administration.  
  • Ensure up-to-date revision of syllabi, course descriptions, and course criteria.  
  • Coordinate with other course instructors and course directors to identify opportunities for horizontal and vertical integration of material.  
  • Actively promote professionalism and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD degree in Pharmacology, Biochemistry, or related field.  
  • Postdoctoral research experience in Pharmacology, Biochemistry, or a related field (preferred).  
  • Prior teaching experience in relevant field (preferred).  
  • Membership in a professional association tied to the area of instruction (preferred).  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including evidence of the ability to build successful relationships with student populations.  
  • Strong computer skills (i.e., software, analytical, and report writing skills)
