Overview Adel Design Research (ADR) Laboratory invites applicants for full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate or more senior positions to join our team at Princeton University. Candidates will work with Dr. Arash Adel (Assistant Professor, School of Architecture) and other members of the ADR Laboratory on interdisciplinary research projects related to construction robotics, automated building assembly, additive manufacturing, human-robot collaboration, and STEM education. Our research interests include topics such as robot learning, computer vision, closed-loop control, process-level digital twin, extended reality (XR), and computational design. The desired start date is Fall 2023. Appointments are for one year with the possibility of renewal pending satisfactory performance and continued funding. About Us ADR Laboratory is an interdisciplinary group for advanced research at the intersection of design, computation, and robotics; the research contributes to resilient, sustainable, and low-carbon construction outlooks and achievements. At the core of ADR Laboratory's comprehensive research is investigating human-machine collaborative processes, which tackle fundamental questions related to the future of the design and construction industries and their potential to have a broader impact on inclusive and equitable building culture. ADR Laboratory's research has been supported by highly competitive grants, including a National Science Foundation's Future of Work at the Human-Technology Frontier grant. Job Description We seek to hire outstanding Postdoctoral Research Associates with strong interests in interdisciplinary research on Construction Robotics, Additive Manufacturing, and Human-Robot Collaboration. Your responsibilities will include conducting research, disseminating research results, collaborating on robotically fabricated structures, and assisting with managing the lab and projects. We also expect that you will collaborate with the ADR team on developing grant proposals. Qualifications Required qualifications: Doctoral degree in a related field, such as Architecture, Civil Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, etc. Excellent track record of research and publications related to the job description Strong scientific writing and communication skills Excellent programming skills (Python is required, C# and C++ is desired) Fluency in English Desired qualifications: Experience with Robot Operating System (ROS) Experience with sensing technologies, computer vision, and perception Experience with XR research and development within the context of design and construction Experience with human-robot collaboration Good knowledge of the CAD software Rhinoceros 3D, its plugin Grasshopper 3D, and its API RhinoCommon Foundational knowledge of machine learning Real-world architecture and/or construction experience Application Instruction Applicants must apply online via the application portal and submit a cover letter, CV, three publication samples (conference and/or journal papers), portfolio (if applicable), and contact information for three references.
