It is in this context we are seeking to recruit our next Head of the Department of Physics. 

The Department of Physics is one of the largest in the UK and has been at the forefront of Physics since its foundation over 150 years ago. It aims to inspire world class science in fundamental theory and experimentation while providing high quality teaching and education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The Department is an IoP Juno Practitioner and an Athena Silver SWAN Award winner reflecting our commitment to building a supportive, inclusive, and highly motivated community

Imperial provides globally leading education in STEM subjects for more than 19,000 students, over half of whom come from overseas, reflecting its status as the UK’s most international university. Its alumni and members also include 14 Nobel laureates and three Fields Medallists.

As Head of Department, you will have the opportunity to devise and deliver an ambitious strategy to develop the Department’s world class research output, teaching, and student experience. You will play a leading role in managing key stakeholder relationships internally and cultivating international networks and partners

The successful candidate will have a significant track record of internationally recognised research in their designated field, including publications in high quality journals, a successful track record of developing and securing external research funding and supervision of PhD students to completion. The appointee will also be passionate about academic leadership and evidence the ability to manage and develop effective working relationships with academic and professional staff, displaying a strong commitment to fostering an ambitious and inclusive environment.

Salary: Internationally Competitive

Location: Primarily at Imperial College’s South Kensington, with some travel to other College campuses
