Job Title: Community Schools Coordinator

SUMMARY:

A Community School is a public school—the hub of its neighborhood, uniting families, educators and community partners as an evidence-based strategy to promote equity and educational excellence for each and every child, and an approach that strengthens families and community. The Community School Coordinator is responsible for working specifically with the Site Administrator, and other members of the School Leadership

Team (SLT) to ensure the effective and inclusive planning, coordination and management of activities, programs, and services. Broker, nurture and manage relationships between the school and partners to improve the integration of the whole child with support-academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Additional duties may be assigned.

  • Implement a menu of needs-driven, high-quality programs and services in adherence with the community school model, including but not limited to early childhood programs, expanded learning and enrichment opportunities, health services, parent/family engagement, adult education, direct material assistance and interventions targeted to chronically absent students.
  • Ensure the alignment and integration of all programming with the Site Administrator’s vision and school-day curriculum to the fullest extent possible.
  • Advise the Site Administrator on how to integrate partners and community members into school governance structures (i.e., School Leadership, School Safety, Coordination of Services, Student Study and Attendance teams).
  • Coordinate needs and resource assessment activities on an ongoing basis, employing a variety of strategies and including a broad cross-section of potential community partners.
  • Create, develop and maintain partnerships in the community that enrich the school environment and will provide services for children and families: mental health, afterschool, summer camps, arts, sports, health/dental, adult programs, mentoring, etc.
  • Hire, train and supervise staff as required by the School District.
  • Convene the site-based Community School Leadership Team, a coordinating body that is co-led by the

Site Administrator and Community School Coordinator and may comprise administrators, teachers, support services staff, partners, parents and others to identify needs, set priorities and coordinate the strategy. Support the research/evaluation of the community school by supervising and coordinating the collection of data, timely submission of reports and responses to other requests for information made by the initiative’s leadership.

  • Participate in capacity-building activities, including initiative-wide and site-based trainings, network meetings and study visits, and—with the Site Administrator—ensure the participation of other site-based staff as needed or required.
  • Represent the initiative in various public forums as needed and participate in advocacy activities to promote the initiative.
  • Develop a clear and data-driven yearlong plan for the coordination and delivery of services and supports to students that is built in collaboration with the community partners described above.
  • Develop systems to track programming progress and evaluate effectiveness of activities.
  • Execute other Community School specific tasks as indicated by the School District.

Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of experience working with school-aged children
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Social Work, Education or related field
  • Exceptional leadership skills and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Significant supervisory experience
  • Commitment to professional development
  • A demonstrated goal orientation and focus on outcomes and results
  • A demonstrated ability and/or history to effectively work with children who have been traditionally under-served including multilingual learners, children with special needs, children who have been or are currently involved in the foster/unhoused system, children with socioeconomic disadvantages, and children from single parent/caregiver households.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with school site colleagues.
  • A thorough understanding of youth development principles and practice

  • Bilingual-English/Spanish (required)

Language Skills

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and policy and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to respond effectively to inquiries or complaints from customers, peers, subordinates, top management, or other members of the business community.
  • Ability to speak, write, or understand Spanish is required.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Demonstrated ability to analyze data and present data in an understandable form.

Computer Skills

Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Ability to learn and become proficient in use of various relevant software programs.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

Valid driver’s license preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $72,000.00 per year
