Job Summary
The Department of Biological Sciences is looking to fill the role of Research Assistant in the Wolak Research Group Beetle Lab. This position will be responsible for routing day-to-day operations and normal functions of the Wolak Research Group Beetle Lab and all associated research, outreach, and educational activities. In addition the Research Assistant I position will support the Principal Investigator, postdoctoral fellows, as well as graduate and undergraduate students during the development of experiments that performed in the beetle lab.

This is a one-year limited term appointment. Continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funds.
Essential Functions
Essential Functions include but are not limited to:
  • Maintaining and setting up insect populations
  • Assisting researchers in collecting, recording, and maintaining data and data management protocols from experiments
  • Developing data collection protocols and train new lab personnel
  • Assisting with purchasing and inventorying lab supplies
  • Assisting with research outreach activities

Minimum Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Biology, Genetics, Ecology, or related field and no experience.

Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications


Minimum Skills and Abilities
Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills. Exceptional organizational skills are required.

Desired Qualifications


Desired Qualifications
Demonstrated experience working in an insect or quantitative genetics research lab. Demonstrated proficiency with R, Linux, bash coding, and/or data management. Demonstrated experience mentoring high school and undergraduate researchers. In addition, a strong ability to accomplish tasks independently is desired.
