Postdoctoral Associate in Geologic Carbon Storage

Virginia Tech

Job Description

The Department of Geoscience at Virginia Tech (https://geos.vt.edu/) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate with research specialization in fluid-rock geochemical reactions, geochemical kinetics, reactive transport modeling or similar related fields. This position will support an interdisciplinary research collaboration with Colorado School of Mines to develop novel simulation strategies for quantifying the carbon storage potential of mafic ore bodies. Candidates with demonstrated experience in reactive transport modeling (e.g., TOUGHREACT, PFLOTRAN, Geochemist’s Workbench, etc.) are particularly encouraged to apply. The selected candidate will join Computational Geofluids Lab, which is a dynamic group of student-scholars that is working at the forefront of the low carbon energy transition.

This position is supported by a grant from the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) for one year with an opportunity for a one-year renewal contingent on funding and performance. Research support includes salary, computer, and research &/or conference travel expenses, as well as access to the high-performance computing infrastructure within Virginia Tech’s Advanced Research Computing facility (https://arc.vt.edu/). This position requires occasional travel for meetings with collaborators and research sponsors.

Virginia Tech is a dynamic research community in the vibrant college town of Blacksburg, Virginia, which is just minutes away from numerous outdoor recreational opportunities on the New River and Jefferson National Forest.
