Rutgers University-New Brunswick (RU-NB), a nationally ranked research university and member of the Association of American Universities and the Big Ten Academic Alliance, located in New Brunswick, New Jersey, is seeking a Student Counselor ll. Reports to the Assistant Dean of the New Brunswick Undergraduate program. Responsible for advising a caseload of Honors students from admission through graduation. The primary duties include advisement with respect to courses needed to complete all degree requirements.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
  • Monitoring academic progress of RBS curriculum, as well as referring students to support service when necessary due to financial/personal issues.
  • Ensures students are aware of and follow the policies and procedures of Rutgers Business School – New Brunswick undergraduate program.
  • Will oversee transcript evaluations for external transfers.
  • Handles Study Abroad course equivalency evaluations and approvals.
  • Will recruit, hire, train, and supervise student ambassadors.
  • Develop liaison relationships with RBS faculty and staff, as well as other University departments and services provided at the University.
  • Conduct academic evaluations twice a year.
  • Works with Assistant Deans to develop and implement innovative programs to provide outstanding services to students at RBS events such as Open House, APA/Star processes, new student orientation, major fairs, and other such events.
  • Maintains student records.
  • Records all interactions with students.
  • Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends. Travel among regional campuses may be required.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Requires two years of relevant experience in an administrative function, good communication and interpersonal skills, and computer literacy

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be able to multitask and handle a diverse range of responsibilities.
  • Must have at least 3 years of related experience in higher education.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are a must.
  • Also requires excellent team, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills as well as computer knowledge and skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must have ability to relate and interact with college students.
  • Must be able to work evenings and occasional weekends.
  • Strong problem-solving and prioritizing skills are needed daily, and must be able to manage multiple tasks and interruptions.
  • Must be able to work with faculty and staff at all levels within the university.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Familiarity with Rutgers computing programs including IMS and Degree Navigator is preferred.
