Description

The NDRC of The Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University invites applications for a postdoctoral research fellow focused on basic science and vaccinology with poxviruses, in the laboratory of Dr. Bert Jacobs.

The postdoctoral research fellow will collaborate with faculty and students to advance innovative research in identifying pathogenesis pathways in poxviruses and candidate vaccines utilizing poxviruses as vectors.

The candidate will be involved in all aspects of performing laboratory experiments, preparing manuscripts for publication, managing data and analyses, reviewing protocols, mentoring students, presenting at academic meetings, and helping with other essential duties. The candidate will receive training in grant writing and will help with the preparation and submission of grant proposals. Opportunities exist for first-authored manuscripts, new projects, and for training to work with highly pathogenic viruses.

The Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University was launched in 2004 and is focused on providing opportunities for postdoctoral research fellows to develop skills in critical thinking and lab management, while pursuing projects of lab interest.

Essential duties include:

  • Will design and perform studies to characterize cellular responses to viral infection, so must have related research experience;
  • Will work with viruses and molecular biology assays;
  • Knowledge and experience related to working with engineered viruses;

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A completed PhD in microbiology, vaccinology, virology, or related field within the last five years.
  • Experience with poxviruses;
  • Must be eligible for a smallpox vaccination.
  • Evidence of peer reviewed publications in relevant field;
  • Experience with animal research;
  • Highly desirable qualifications include experience with molecular biology assays and evidence of being self-motivated, detail-oriented, responsible, team-compatible, and possessing excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
