The Opportunity

The Department of Criminal Justice at the University of Central Florida (UCF) is seeking applications for a tenured professor or associate professor on a full-time (nine-month) appointment to join our faculty beginning in Fall 2024. The selected candidate will contribute to the department, college, and university missions by conducting impactful research, teaching undergraduate and graduate criminal justice courses, and participating actively in service within and beyond the department. All faculty in the Department of Criminal Justice are expected to deliver classroom (i.e., in-person on UCF’s Orlando campus) and online instruction. The anticipated teaching assignment for this position is a standard 2/2 load.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in criminal justice, criminology, sociology, or an adjacent field, from an accredited institution. Terminal J.D. degrees, as well as alternative terminal graduate degrees (Ed.D., Psy.D., Crim.D., etc.) without an accompanying Ph.D. will not be considered.

• Candidates must meet minimum qualifications for securing tenure in the UCF Department of Criminal Justice. Thus, candidates must possess a strong record of published scholarship, teaching, and service appropriate for a scholar at a senior rank. Candidates must have prior experience with funded extramural grants and/or contracts, including in the roles of principal or co-principal investigator.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Preferred qualifications include demonstrable experience teaching and mentoring doctoral students.

• Prior experience with academic administration, service and/or visibility to the discipline, as well as demonstrable leadership (e.g., service as an editor-in-chief, fellowship recognized by one or more national/international scholarly associations in the field or related) will be considered in the context of the candidate’s full record.

• Area of topical specialization is open, but candidates who contribute to one or more of the Department’s core competencies may be prioritized.
