Director of Counseling & Accessibility Services

 


Responsibilities: 
The Director of Counseling and Accessibility services will provide individual and/or group counseling support related to a variety of personal, emotional or developmental areas on a brief treatment basis. The Director will consult with community mental health partners as needed and serve as the point of contact for students with longer term needs. They will collaborate with faculty, staff and students to coordinate, organize and publicize pro-active campus-wide educational and programmatic offerings. This position will provide campus-wide trainings for faculty and staff, will communicate policies and procedures for requesting reasonable accommodations to prospective and current students, parents, educators and external organizations, and may serve at an advocate for students when needed. Responding to inquiries from prospective students, family members and community service providers about accessibility services at the College; the Director will collect and review medical, psychiatric and psychological documentation to determine eligibility and review the need for reasonable accommodations. The approval of reasonable accommodations is based on documented need, student request and academic program requirements. The Director will collaborate with faculty and staff in the determination and implementation of accommodations when requested, and arrange for auxiliary services needed to assure access.

 


Minimum Qualifications: 
A Master’s degree in the field of counseling or social work is required. In addition, counseling licensure (current LCSW or LCPC or State Clinical Counselor Licensure) is required. Experience in a higher education setting, training and experience in counseling, conflict resolution and mediation, experience in a disability-related field with knowledge of disability types, laws and regulations as they relate to postsecondary education, and knowledge of assistive technology, strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to faculty and staff are essential.

 


Bargaining Unit/Salary Level: 
Salary and benefits commensurate with the Agreement between the Maine Community College System Trustees and the MEA Administrators Bargaining Unit. Range III, Salary Range $40,785.97-$53,216.45Benefits include: Retirement choice of Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) or Teachers Insurance & Annuity Association College Retirement Equities Fund (TIAA-CREF) - in lieu of Social Security; full employee health/dental insurance and approximately 60% of cost for dependent coverage; life insurance paid by the MCCS; Vacation 15 days/year; Personal 2 days/year; Sick 12 days/year; and 13 paid holidays. Administrators shall serve a probationary period of up to eighteen (18) months.
