The Opportunity

There is one opening for a full-time, benefits eligible, 24-month postdoctoral research scholar. For additional information and policies regarding postdoctoral scholars at UCF, including professional development and resources for UCF postdoctoral scholars, please see https://graduate.ucf.edu/postdoctoral/. Postdoctoral scholars with approved funding may receive a $5,000 stipend in addition to salary and benefits to support travel, professional development, and/or research activities.

A two-year postdoctoral research scholar position is available for individuals interested in collaborating on grant-funded research relating to community corrections work. The researcher will work directly with Dr. Jill Viglione on NSF and BJA-funded research projects, including a collaboration with the American Probation and Parole Association to develop pandemic guidelines for community corrections agencies and randomized controlled experiments examining the impact of virtual supervision efforts. This postdoctoral researcher will primarily work on the NSF-funded pandemic guidelines with integration into other projects based on individual interest's and training needs. See below for a description of primary potential projects:

Development of Evidence-Based Viral Pandemic Guidelines for Community Corrections (NSF; #2215111):

Community supervision agencies had to drastically adapt policies to manage social distancing during supervision contacts and help individuals to achieve supervision goals during the pandemic. One of the greatest challenges during the pandemic was the lack of clear and consistent guidelines for supervision agencies to use. This project uses a multi-staged approach to develop a comprehensive evidence-based understanding of the response to and impact of COVID-19 on the field of community supervision and apply the collected evidence to develop empirically supported pandemic response guidelines for supervision agencies. This project will involve research evaluation of responses and impact of pandemic responses in three jurisdictions and collaboration with experts across relevant fields to inform two key deliverables: a database of successful practices and policies for the field and Practice Guidelines for the Community Corrections Responses to Viral Pandemics. Researchers will conduct surveys and interviews with community corrections officers, administrators, and clients. Agency-level data will be collected from each participating agency to examine trends in key outcomes over time.

Evaluation of Virtual Supervision in Community Corrections (various BJA projects):

We are conducting several studies evaluating the impact of virtual supervision on key outcomes, including probation success, technical violations, PO-client relationship, and satisfaction with supervision. These studies involve collaboration with community corrections agencies across the United States. Research tasks include participant recruitment, survey and interview administration, management and analysis of administrative data, use of results to inform quality improvement processes, and dissemination of results.
